Day 11 Winslow, AZ - Kingman, AZ 237 miles

It's hard for us to believe that it is Day 11 already. We have had a lot of fun and met a lot of nice people. Today we got a call from Hoot just before we went to breakfast in the motel and visited with him for a bit. It was the best breakfast of a Best Western we have had yet. Well we left at 6:55 after chatting with Blue Jay on facebook and it was 65*. She wondered why we weren't on the road yet. She forgot we were 3 hours behind NY time.

We went to Walmart 3 miles down the road to pick up some water and other things. We like the the 10 oz bottles of water because we can get more of them on the bike. We can stick them in the nooks and crannies of the bag.

Then we toured Winslow, AZ and was standing on the corner. This woman named Sandy came along and offered to take our picture. Then we went to the store across the street and she came and told us about the new 9-11 memorial at the other end of town.  It is two pieces of I-beam from the twin towers that was shipped to Kingman by Walmart. Some people hate Walmart, but they do a lot of nice things for the communities they are in.

We visited the ghost towns of Two Guns and Twin Arrows and the very much alive towns of Winona, Flagstaff, and Williams.

When we come into Kingman, AZ a pickup truck pull up beside us and motioned for us to follow him. I didn't know what was going on and was a little nervous about following this big Indian. He pulled into a parking lot and told us we lost a bag about 2 blocks back. Susie looked and  her rain gear bag was missing. We thanked him and headed back to get it. Sure enough laying in the West bound lane was the bag. We pulled a u-turn and headed back to get it. I pulled over and Susie jumped off to get the bag just in time to see a van run over it. Well it was just rain gear and her Schampa's so it didn't hurt much he just put a small hole in the bag.
We pulled into the motel behind a Pepsi van and this guy came out and apologized for running over our bag. He said he was sorry several times and offered to pay for any damages and would even call Pespi Company if need be to cover the cost. I told him that is wasn't a problem and I didn't even know it was him that run over it. He said he thought I followed him to the motel to kick his ass for running over our bag and he was serious. Susie and I looked at him and laughed and said I don't think I could do that. He was a big man and we got a kick out of him being worried that I was going to beat him up.

So here we are in Kingman, Az where we stayed last year at the Best Western A Wayfarer Inn and Suites on Route 66/Andy Devine Ave.

Hope everyone had a good day.

  3. Hi Al and Susie,

Is that the street where the two Best Western Motels are almost across from each other...?

If so, what's the name of the restaurant beside the 'other' Best Western...?

Beautiful country - just looking at pictures again and saw the writing on the front of the 'Twin Arrows Trading Post' - "The Osama Deception..."

Hope it's not as hot where you are as it is in this neck of the woods...

Have fun, enjoy and be safe...

  5. Peggy cubbear,
It is JB's Steakhouse and that is where we had dinner last night. It was 100* when we pulled into Kingman. Susie took that picture because of the graffiti. haha
