Day 17 Petaluma,CA - Crescent City, CA 319 miles

Left Petaluma at 7:20 this morning. Yes, we were late because we slept in. Ronn told us to relax because we were on vacation and we slept in. :^) The temperature was 49*........BRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! Good thing we prepared for all weather. Riding a motorcycle is kind of like the Boy Scout motto "Be prepared". The temps went up in down as we went up and down in elevation. 49 to 80 to 60 and back and forth sometimes 20 degrees in 5 minutes.
All in all it was a very good day with some nice scenery and nice people on the way. We rode the 101 up the coast and into the mountains, the Giant Redwoods, and along the coast. We are on the coast tonight in Crescent City, CA at the Best Western Northwoods Inn. I can see the ocean from where I sit typing this. It is a nice place with it's own restaurant.
Everyone take care and have a good night. That is all for tonight.
  Bye,
  Albert and Susie

Albert calls this 'The Hanging Tree'!
I call this "The Snot Tree"!

A 1 log home!
This is for 'Hoot'! Nice eh?

  1. Hi Al and Susie,

Great pictures - I copied this out from our website that Mac wrote last year - actually was August 17, 2009: Also in Crescent City for 2 days - looking back, I don't think Mac really felt that great...

"This was a very long and tiring ride, starting in Tualatin, Oregon down Interstate 5 with heavy traffic and ending up along the West Coast Highway 101 from Oregon and into California and down the Redwood Highway into Crescent City, California, The last section of the Redwood Highway was loaded with many sharp curves, redwood trees right beside the highway making it difficult muscling the trike around all the sharp curves and finally a drop in temperatures of nearly 40 degrees as we entered Crescent City. The tall, large Redwood trees are not as impressive in pictures as they were in real life"

Don't think we were entirely expecting it to get so cold so quick... Believe it was during this time that Mac said he'd like to go back home therefore we had to ride North to Grants Pass so we could ride east (or something like that) to cut around the mountains...

Be safe; enjoy and have fun...

  9. Woah! I'm really digging the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective.

A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between usability and visual appeal. I must say that you've done
a great job with this. Additionally, the blog
loads extremely fast for me on Chrome. Superb Blog!
