Day 1 De Kalb Jct., NY - Elyria, OH 482 miles

Up early and on the road at 5:50am. The temperature was 71degrees. It started to sprinkle at Richville, NY which is 10 minutes from home. Stopped in Gouveneur, NY (18 miles from home) and filled up with gas and put on the Road Toads (rain suits by Frogg Toggs). It never did rain hard but we kept the suits on because the threat of rain was always there.
Met Terry and Rebel, a couple from Chicago. They were on their way back from Buffalo, NY. We had a good visit, told them where we were going and Rebel recommended skipping Chicago, but Terry said Route 66 needed to be done from the beginning. Soooooooooo.....it looks like tomorrow morning we head for Chicago, Illinois. We gave them our blog address and they said they would follow us. They gave us their home phone number in case we needed anything in the Chicago area. Nice of them eh? Here is their website:

Thank God for the GPS. I would have never made it through Cleveland without it. What a mess trying to follow I-90W with the GPS, it would have been a harder without it.
Now we are in Elyria, Ohio staying at the Best Western. Just got back from dinner and time to clean up and relax and get ready to hit Chicago in the morning.
So we went a total of 482 miles which is a little farther than anticipated. We only planned on getting to Cleveland so we are a little ahead of schedule.

PS.A special thanks to Suzann (the gal I worked for a little) for brunch, lunch, and supper. :) The maple donuts were especially yummy. :)
A special hi to Laurel from Afton Station, OK that is now following us. We should be stopping by to see her sometime at the Station because it is on Route 66. Here is Laurel's website:
