Day 24 West Yellowstone, MT - Laurel, MT 234 miles

  Left the motel and temperature was 39* at 7:30 this morning. Well we ended up going into Yellowstone again and hit construction in the park twice. It took us 6 hours to go 116 miles. Of course the max speed in the park is 45 MPH. BUT.....did we see some sites. It was colder so the geysers were really smokin'. We see elk, bears and thousands of buffalo. When we see the bears they were pretty close to the road and a bunch of cars stopped to look and I am thinking, HEY!!! we are on a motorcycle folks. We I guess it wasn't "folks" that I called them but it is close.
  We went out the Northeast Gate across Rt. 212 which is also Bear Tooth Scenic Byway. We thought the Going-to-the-Sun Highway was awesome. This highway has some scenery that you wouldn't believe unless you see it. It is also a motorcycle riders dream. The switch backs and curves are wicked and so is the scenery.
   So after 9 hours on the road we are here in Laurel, MT at the Best Western Yellowstone Crossing. Time for a shower and some supper. :^)

Day 23 Great Falls, MT - West Yellowstone, MT 329 miles

  We left Great Falls at 7:10 and the temperature was 47* but warmed up pretty good by 10 or so.
The ride was great even though we had to travel through 10 miles of road construction.
We got to West Yellowstone and we couldn't get in a room so we decided to go and tour some of Yellowstone Park while we were waiting. They recommend you spend 3 days to tour the park. Well we aren't going to take 3 days so we headed straight for Old Faithful because that is what we knew and what we wanted to see. Well we found out at the Basin of Geysers (or something like that) about what time Old Faithful would "go off" again.
  We see some elk and deer on the way. Got some pictures of them and some other nice scenery on the way. We also got some real nice photos between Great Falls and here. We got to Old Faithful and found out we missed it by 5 minutes and the next time would be between an hour and an hour and a half. It seems Old Faithful isn't as faithful as it use to be. So we went to the lodge and got a coffee and went down to sit and wait for it.
  We met 6 retired NYC Fire Dept. Retired guys on Harleys that had just come from Sturgis and were going to check out a few more sites before heading home. What a crew they were. It was a good day and we are in West Yellowstone for the night at the Best Western Weston Inn. There are two other Best Western's that I can see from this one. This seems to be a nice quiet place and so far we are the youngest ones I have seen here. I will probably get comments on that but I will leave it anyway. :^)
  We are thinking of going back through Yellowstone Park on the way out to Wyoming, Montana and into North Dakota. We are also thinking of going through Wyoming to South Dakota and then North Dakota. I guess we will have to know by morning. LOL!!!
  OH...ya....the rain hit just as we got back and under the carport at the motel. We lucked out again.

Day 22 Columbia Falls, MT - Great Falls, MT 239 miles

  We slept in this morning until 6:00. WOW!!!! It must be the hour we lost yesterday. When we started out it was 47* and when we got further up in Glacier National Park it went as low as 34* and was up to 75* by the time we left the park.
  Cubbear, you are right about the Going-to-the-Sun-Road. It is one awesome 50 miles of sights that are unbelievable. We rode it from the West Gate to St. Mary's in the East. If anyone gets the chance to make this drive I highly recommend it. Pictures can't take in what you can see with your own eyes.
  We are told that a few years ago they were thinking of shutting the road down. Then through some grants, etc. that started a 10 year project in 2008 to restore the guardrails and the road. In my opinion it is a worthy project and hopefully it will be completed.
  Eventually Susie will give the link to every picture we take and have taken on our trip. She also did a few videos of the trip and maybe they will be on her picture site. Here are a few for now of today's ride.
